Volunteer

Our bible verse for Befriended quotes, “we will encourage one another”, we believe that volunteering with Befriended is a win-win situation.  Befriending an older person is proven to make a lasting and positive difference in their lives. Our experience, knowledge and the feedback from our current Befriended volunteers is, that it also benefits those who are volunteering.

All our volunteers are DBS checked and are given full training before starting, so even if you’re slightly unsure about whether you’re the ‘right person’ for it, if you are up for chatting to an older person for an hour or so each week, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

If you don’t have the time to give an hour each week, but would love to still be involved, we are always looking for volunteers to help at events or our community groups, so please get in touch with us and we can let you know about any opportunities that are coming up.

Our volunteer process is simple but extensive.  We do ask a significant amount of information about you, but that is so we can build a strong relationship with you which in turn begins a good foundation for any friendships you form with our clients.

Sarah has been a volunteer for Befriended now for a few years.  She already had built up a very close friendship with her befriendee through visiting her once a week but during lockdown she began to call her more often.  Sarah says “I speak to Joan every day if not more than once a day now because she means so much to me in my life”. She is the first person I now call if I have anything to share, we are such close friends”
